What made you decide to start your own business? I wentthrough a transition as a nurse due to stressful situations imposed on me by ahealthcare care system that not only lacks effective management skills, butplaces nurses in dangerous situations due to constrained budgets imposed onthem. Through my experience I was inspired to not only “take my own show on theroad”, but to do so in a way that could help my tribe (fellow nurses) improvetheir own lives through reducing their stress, discovering that there are choicesfor them and empowering them to be inspired into becoming their best in life aswell as in nursing. My goal is to enhance the lives of nurses which will resultin enhancing the care given in the field.

What specific qualities and traits do you feel make nursesespecially qualified to operate a business? Starting and maintaining a business can be a daunting task.Nurses are battle hardened and proven. They are results oriented and posseskeen observational skills which are required in launching a new business andkeeping it going as the momentum builds. They are experienced in creatingplans, organizing and implementing them, and then overseeing the outcomes. Theyhave been forced to learn how to work smart, yet still must work hard, andtherefore can fully appreciate the ability to work less hard as they accomplishmomentum in their own business, which results in experiencing the satisfactionof that achievement. One rarely experienced when nursing under a healthcorporation. That achievement in itself, for a nurse, can be enough to inspirethem to greatness in their own business!

Do you currently practice as a nurse? If yes in what type ofsetting? In a sense don’t we nurses practice as such in all areas of our lives? But no, I no longer practice at the bedside.
Your most pressing concerns with the profession andhealthcare: Heathcare for profit greed and healthcare budget shortages thatimpair nurses in performing their duties. Also, the lack of administrativemanagerial skills (leadership skills) and the lack of their understanding ofwhat nurses do.

How do you feel the coming nursing shortage (as baby boomerenter the healthcare system, and nurses retire in droves) will affect patientcare? If healthcare and political mentality doesn’t change it looks prettygloomy to me. Although I see a potential for change through growing concern andsupport of nurses.
Other areas of interest and expertise: I practice several martial arts and study to become a karate instructor, practice meditation, study in many philosophies relating to self improvement and consciousness.
